Bulent Ecevit

Bulent Ecevit (1925-2006) was a Turkish politician, poet, and journalist who served as Prime Minister four times between 1974 and 2002. Known as Karaoglan (Black Boy), Ecevit was one of the most charismatic politicians in Turkish history. He led the Republican People's Party and was known for his left-of-center political stance. His most significant political decision was the 1974 military intervention in Cyprus. Ecevit was also a respected poet and translator, having translated works by Sylvia Plath and T.S. Eliot into Turkish. His political career spanned over five decades.
