Riot Games is officially winding down active development on its free-to-play League of Legends fighting game, 2XKO, by the end of 2026. Low player retention rates prevented the title from achieving long-term sustainability, despite its October 2025 PC beta and January 2026 console debut on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
According to a report initially published by The Verge on August 20, 2026, Riot Games confirmed that active support for 2XKO will cease at the end of 2026. Developers noted that the title failed to maintain a sufficient player base to establish a financially viable future .
Despite the end of active updates, Riot assured fans that game servers will remain online beyond 2026. To compensate the remaining community, the studio is unlocking all playable roster characters for free and issuing full refunds for money spent within the game.
2XKO entered early access beta on PC in October 2025 before expanding to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S in January 2026 . However, momentum stalled rapidly. Shortly after the console rollout, Riot instituted internal restructuring, reducing the staff assigned to the title.
